I am John Sedlak, the Vice President and COO of Smithers
Quality Assessments. I am writing on behalf of the dedicated
team at Smithers who are working diligently with you
throughout your certification process.
In support of that effort, we are launching a newsletter
focused on process improvement. We plan to periodically bring
you case studies on companies generating a significant return
on investment from their certification process as well as
updates in the industry. We hope you will find this
information educational and helpful in managing your company's
quality management system.
Thank you for your interest.
Sincerely, John Sedlak

Who should
lead the ISO 9001 Effort? |
|
If your organization is already certified to ISO 9001, why
did you do it? If you are thinking about or planning to get
certified, why are you doing it? Typically I hear three
answers to this question (ranked by frequency of response): A)
one or more customers required us to be certified (mandates);
B) we felt we needed a credential to open doors to new
business (competition); C) to make our business more efficient
and profitable (improvement).
Another question that solicits varying responses is, "Who
is leading the charge for implementing and/or maintaining the
ISO 9001 quality management system?" Responses (also ranked by
frequency) include 1) the quality manager; 2) an
implementation team; 3) the top executive. |

Schneller
Proves ISO 9001 Provides Benefits beyond the Initial
Effort |
|
Schneller, Inc, a maker of high-tech, decorative surface
laminates for the transportation and architectural industries,
initially pursued ISO 9001 certification as a means of
business and process improvement. In accordance with the ISO
standards, every step in the manufacturing process was
documented. Smithers Quality Assessments suggested that
Schneller could leverage its certification to ISO 9001
certification as a means of streamlining the documentation
process. SQA felt that there was an opportunity to simplify.
